And through her co-writing, she has created a group of very funny and very interesting characters for her story. And these characters were brought to life by a very funny and talented group of actresses. Two that really shone were Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne. Of all the acting that I've seen Byrne do, I never thought she could be this good at being this funny. And McCarthy portrayed this rough and very tom-boyish character that she nailed every single nuance.
But it really was Wiig's talent and that familiarity of charm that she brought to Saturday Night Live week in week out, coupled with her chemistry with Maya Rudolph, that really drove the main storyline. There was also Rebel Wilson and Matt Lucas with short screentime but really funny lines that brought in more laughters. And Jon Hamm came in for a couple of short and uncredited scene just for the fun factor.
However, throughout the movie there were a few scenes which I thought were a little slow and draggy. I guess the good parts were too good that the not-so-good parts really showed the contrast. But credit to director Paul Feig who has had more experiences with television comedies than movies. He was able to keep the story funny mostly in a full feature length and not just on a twenty-minute episodic format.
We'll definitely see more writing from Wiig in the near future I'm sure. Not only did she throw in some hilarious lines but as a story for movie, it was pretty solid.
