Same goes to Max Minghella from The Social Network. Both these two leads are actually good actors; but given a script and a story such as this, I thought it was just a waste of everyone's time.
Right from the beginning when the scene was trying to establish Hirsch as a smooth and charismatic character when he was talking his way out with the flight attendant, I thought that already didn't come out as good.
Then a lot of the plots were created just for the sake of being somewhat dramatic. But all the while, the movie failed to be a thriller as I sat in my seat lukewarm the entire time. Nothing that happened onscreen phased me as I ho-hummed the minutes away, waiting and hoping for something smart to happen.
Plus, one of the worst part came from the lazy writing, where Hirsch's character was able to figure out so many things of the aliens just by having one minor thing happened.
And there's that gigantic silliness and unrealistic ploy at attempting at some drama; whereby the aliens have never hesitated turning a living thing into ashes until they grabbed hold of a key character.
But the even more gigantic loophole appeared when another key character somehow, and realistically impossible, to get separated from the main group just from getting their boat sank. A total ridicule.
Furthermore, you will see before the movie ended that they were setting up for a sequel. Don't bother, I'd say.
