And of course, Gina Carano from American Gladiators still has a long way to go in becoming a lead actress. But Steven Soderbergh really worked his magic with her because he made her fit into his style of directing. And the result, her flaws were all well hidden away.
But Carano certainly had to be the first pick for this role. She sure could take a punch, but she could throw one even better. A lot of the hand-to-hand combat movements were all done without a body-double. I bet she wouldn't mind doing all her stunts and probably has. For the physicality tha this role required, hands down she was the perfect candidate; creating the best bits about this movie - the real and raw action.
But for the rest of the cast, I thought not many lived up to their stardom. Antonio Banderas wasn't even necessary. Michael Douglas didn't have any spark. Nor did Ewan McGregor who fared better with more lines.
Channing Tatum, like Carano, not that great an actor, also benefited under Soderbergh's direction. Michael Fassbender made his exit far too early. And Michael Angarano who was there to "assist" in telling the story was the weakest link, having to feed off the only part where Carano was the weakest and not able to bring anything more.
Story progression didn't appeal to me at all. Too many turns and bends along the way that confused me. And at the end of all those jumbled up segments, there was nothing thrilling about why Carano's character was backstabbed.
