Mirror Mirror (5/10)

I did appreciate what the producers tried to do with this Disney classic. To a certain extent, they did achieve it. But mostly it wasn't worth the trouble.

This updated version of Snow White was supposed to be more cute than scary. And Julia Roberts playing the antagonist was just that, more cute than scary.

A lot of things the writers changed but some things I thought shouldn't be. Like the names of the seven dwarves, or the poisonous apple. I wanted to see these things in a Snow White movie because they were the essence of Snow White.

And as for Armie Hammer, I thought he could have made better use of his time and new found fame than to play a cute prince here. Nathan Lane delivered as this was a role written for him. But I wished they gave him more to do. And I pleasantly was surprised of course to see who the King was in the end of the movie. I recently saw this joke made of him about how he died in every movie, so this for once he was brought back to life.

What about Lily Collins as Snow White? First thing that hit me was how thick her eyebrows have become here? It's as if they were re-emphasised. But she delivered her part well enough.

The action bits however were atrocious. It's amateurish at best from director Tarsem Singh, who also didn't do well for Immortals. Had it not been some money spent on CGI, this would have been worse.

I'm glad this wasn't the only Snow White movie out this year and I'm really looking forward to the other one, even if it's Kirsten Stewart.

  2. Oh yes! Definitely looking forward to Snow White and the Huntsman. Charlize Theron looks so wickedly gorgeous in the trailer.
