That's the most accurate tagline I've seen in a while because this could have been so easily labelled as one of those teenager-slasher popcorn flick, but my, Joss Whedon has outdone himself this time. It's probably his best writing yet.
And when I saw Chris Hemsworth in the cast, I thought no self-respecting rising star was going to stoop so low as to star in a lousy slasher movie. And again, that was accurate.
I really cannot write too much about what this movie was about because that would really spoil the fun of discovery. And I can assure you, it is worth discovering. Be prepared to get your mind blown.
The cast was capable and competent enough to pull off this incredible horror genius. But the best performance was from Fran Kranz, who has had previous work with Whedon before this. Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins added more intrigue to their roles and played the bigger part of the story. Their first scenes in the movie's opening was also one of the best.
If I were to nitpick, and this is me being overly critical, the only thing that stopped me from giving this a perfect score was because the first half still suffered from predictability and cliches. But the intended cliches were done very well and produced humourous scenes.
This was by far the most awesome horror movie to have come along in a long while. I'm trying to recall what was the last best horror movie I've watched. The Ring and Shutter weren't a Hollywood flick. Saw wasn't exactly in the same genre. Perhaps Drag Me To Hell, but it certainly wasn't as good as this. Well done, Mr. Whedon!
