But as an entertainment factor, it couldn't really hold my attention. Sure, it was crazy stupid fun, what with the modern swearing but in a world that's centuries ago. The mismatch in the dialogue was one of the entertainment value here.
So much so that even when Franco and McBride's English accent went in and out in the most random fashion, they seemed appropriate even.
I thought the acting from McBride and Franco really saved the movie. Franco, known for some really good serious movies, still can throw on a stupid hat and play a stupid part to perfection; so that's always nice to see. And Portman, apart from always delivering on the acting front, was simply beautiful.
Too bad Zooey Deschanel as the silly damsel-in-distress, wasn't used to her full potential.
However, the story was the let down as it wasn't the most original. The storyline and the plot were very simple. As an off-beat and funky movie, this was leaning more towards the no-brainer kind of fun that Adam Sandler is known for, but the movie more often than not will turn out to be not that good.
I would rather see more of the Superbad kind of fun, or what the new breed of funny writers such as Jason Segal and Seth Rogen can bring to the table.
Nevertheless, it still brought some senseless fun and laughter, and some gags that stood out too.
