Good thing too, because the opening scenes with Nicole Sherzinger (chest) and Jemaine Clement as the antagonist were weak. The beginning of the movie with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were quite dull too.
Only when Smith met up with Josh Brolin then everything kicked into gear. The action, the jokes, and the characters were more colouful "in the past".
The big plus here was Michael Stuhlbarg's character who can see all the different possibilities of the future, whereby every second with a different scenario can lead to a different future - a concept tjat intrigues me greatly.
Still, the classic illogical storytelling plagued this movie. It's funny how the villian sometimes chose to shoot the heroes and sometimes not, or why Smith's character was informed that he must quickly travel back to his time with no good reason given once he has completed his mission, but for the sake of the storytelling giving a false sense of urgency. I find this highly irritating and lazy.
Bill Hader was almost unrecognisable as Andy Warhol. Only his nuances in acting gave him away. Alice Eve was less effective in this movie and didn't have a lot to do.
I'm still unsure why Will Arnett and Emma Thompson were in this movie as they weren't very effective anyway. But Arnett was probably just a cameo as he wasn't even credited.
At the end, when all was revealed, I thought it was a very strong finish to everything including any major questions on the time travelling.
