The Fighter (8/10)

This story was as much about Micky Ward as it was about Dicky Ecklund. The two was nothing without each other. No wonder some argued for Christian Bale to be nominated as Best Actor as well.

Bale has sunk himself into the role so much that he was unrecognisable. His performance was fantastic and him jumping out of the window still brings smile to my face.

Mark Wahlberg did not have as much to act out as Bale had, the snuff from the Oscars said it all. Nevertheless, still he gave another great performance here.

When I first saw Amy Adams here, I too almost didn't recognise her because her usual gentle being was transformed into the tough and rough that was her character.

And of course there was Melissa Leo who also won an Oscar. She was the surprise who gave an incredible performance and that I was totally against her character. For the audience to be against her would really require something very special and she gave it.

What I thought could have been better were the fights themselves as they were not choreographed in a way that would be exciting. Instead it was perhaps too real to be exciting. Especially the final fight, unlike The Wrestler or Million Dollar Baby that had me holding my breath, this one did not had anything special except a couple of ducks and a couple of punches that stood out.
