Sinister (6/10)

Sinister opened with something freaky and also ended with a horrifying high.

But it's the middle section that I could have done without.

Once again, it's all about the scares with loud thumping sound effects and scary soundtracks. Everytime a Super 8 film was being played, the music never failed to set the mood. Some scares were good but others were unnecessary as they had no connection with the main story.

The concept of this version of the Boogie Man was with the use of Super 8. Reminded me a lot of The Ring, especially towards the ending (not a spoiler, I promise). And overall, the whole idea of this movie was very well thought out.

But the middle section didn't really tie-in well with the concept. There were ghosts running around but never really explained why they were there or how they came back out. Or why the killings first began as well, that was left wide open.

So I guess still not as well thought out as say, the concept of The Ring.

And for once, I would like to see a movie where the protagonist run like the wind at the first sign of something sinister in the new house he just moved into... I'm glad to see Ethan Hawke run but that was after a few blatant incidents that hinted on supernatural forces at work. How about having someone who is not as stubborn next time? Just for once?
