It was definitely good to see John McClane on the silver screen again. He still has his humour and comedic timing intact and that's a great thing on Bruce Willis' part. And I thought Jai Courtney was a good addition to the franchise. He's got more of a presence here than he did in the Spartacus series.
And this is where the good ends.
First, Die Hard is an action movie. And this was indeed an action movie. However, a lot of the action scenes were bad.
From the opening of the chase scene, it was badly created, followed by a whole lot of mess. The way director John Moore created some of the thrills were very artificial and messy.
The story was just good, but it was all the one-liners delivered by all the bad guys that were bad.
In the middle when Radivoje Bukvic was supposed to kill off the McClanes, he took it unreasonably casually because there was a helicopter waiting for him.
Courtney looked tough. But when he just got a steel bar pulled out of his waist, "getting back to work" would be too unrealistic.
Towards the end, when the McClanes set off a grenade, immediately Willis' character could hear a helicopter when his ears should have been ringing.
And how in the world was there still a swimming pool?
Too many inconsistencies in the continuity of the story. Too illogical and artificial. Plus Yuliya Snigir's performance was a bit over-acted.
A very disappointing addition to the franchise.
