However, this was one of the worst movies of the year. So what if the year just started, I know a worst-movie-of-the-year when I see one, and I have no doubt this will be one. It'll rank just as high as the most disappointing movie of the year too.
The concept, good. The introduction with the two kids and the witch, great. After that, nothing.
I hate how movies are written in such a way that the protagonist always know where to go or when to be where. There were many cases just like this in Hansel & Gretel. It was loathsome.
And as good an actor as Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are, their portrayal as brother and sister here were more like lovers. But if they had kissed at any point in the movie, I would still be surprised because they had no chemistry.
Famke Janssen didn't have much to do. Peter Stormare might have been the only good thing about it. Fight scenes were illogical even in this fantasy world, and the ending was just anti-climactic.
If this movie was made to be a 3D entertainment, it was pretty sad an excuse for it.
