I've enjoyed the first instalment of Painted Skin and this one was almost as good.
Zhou Xun and Zhao Wei although didn't share too much chemistry onscreen but still delivered good performances to lead this movie.
Even with Yang Mi and Feng Shao Feng providing some light-hearted scenes that could have gone very cheesy but the tone of the movie managed to reel it in very nicely.
Here's a Chinese fabled legend that was not only told very well but also used CGI to elevate the overall performance. Big budget, no doubt, and very nicely controlled under the direction of Wu Er Shan who took over the reigns from Gordon Chan.
I only wished it wasn't as dramatic as it were in the end with the self-sacrificing but I guess that's one way to do the movie.
