The producers really brought out the big guns in this one, and I don't just mean the arms of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson; although finally seeing them standing side by side was a scene to behold.
Initially I thought that the trailers really made the movie looked better than it really was. Especially that "Matrix" scene when Diesel flew across the highway to catch Michelle Rodriguez, became somewhat disappointing when seen the whole sequence played out. But the third act, filled with adrenalin rushes and big action sequences, made the movie a bigger and better entertainer.
However, it still suffered greatly in the story telling where by most of the details were brushed off and made convenient. Justin Lin chose to focus fully on the action by skipping on developing the story properly. Also, I would have liked to see more emotions where appropriate but got zero instead. For example, some sense of danger and urgency and fear would have been appropriate involving Sung Kang and Gal Gadot, rather then stripping the emotions down to an apathetic "This is who we are."
And with such a huge cast, the team members weren't able to be featured equally in order to represent them properly as individuals.
Nevertheless, I thought Lin really up his game this time around with big (sometimes nonsensical) action sequences, but maybe because there was a bigger budget to play around with.
Luke Evans was a great addition to the movie, bringing some smooth, sleek and sexy to the otherwise muscular and in-your-face cast. And it's been two years since Gina Carano's Haywire, though she doesn't seem to have improve in the acting department. That also was disappointing because otherwise definitely another great addition to the cast.
