It started off with a bang, and promises of a sexy heist movie set in Las Vegas once again. Jesse Eisenberg leading the charge and channelling a smooth and sexy leading man like Clooney or Pitt, though the script never really let him soar in that direction.
There was very little love affair going on, except for one which came kind of out of nowhere because it was not done very properly and probably also because the actors were devoid of chemistry.
I think Mark Ruffalo somehow got better and easier to watch after his take on being the Hulk. Even though I didn't like how his character ended but throughout I still enjoyed his performance.
But with such a storyline, certain developments felt quite out of place. For example, I would have never imagined Dave Franco's character to be good in any sort of fighting being a street thief as he was. And not just that, but some parts of the story were really out of character.
Had the movie stuck to what it was best in, the "magic show", that would have been more entertaining; rather than taking the audience out of that fantasy and into the reality of an action movie with street chase and all that. But when the magic was good, that's when the magic happened for the movie.
I would have liked to see more character development for the "magicians", Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Franco and Woody Harrelson. That's where the movie was lacking the most.
I didn't completely enjoyed how the movie ended as well, it was too far fetched; but it has kind of set up itself for a sequel. However, seeing as how critics have feedback, that may not happen.
