And I have to admit, it wasn't so bad. The transition from snails talking to each other to the snail racing in the Indy 500 was quite smooth.
The only thing was that didn't lift off were the jokes. I only found myself laughing once or twice throughout the whole movie. There were a lot of humour but just not funny enough for me.
But I loved the underlying messages, about how Turbo would "make the best" of his gift today and not lament about tomorrow. Or how even if the world was adulating Turbo, the one person's approval that he sought was his own brother's - family members are always the hardest to please but always the ones that are needed.
Or when just one person who started to believe in Turbo, that was enough for him to believe in himself. And that's always what's lacking in this world. Or how the biggest bully always act out because of fear and insecurity.
Great voice acting from Ryan Reynolds and Paul Giamatti playing the brothers. Samuel L. Jackson, Luis Guzman and Snoop Dogg's voice stood out the most. Michelle Rodriguez was kind of a dud though even though that character looked like she was created for her. And Bill Hader could have been funnier playing the antagonist.
