2 Guns (7/10)

I had a double-whammy last night. So after The Internship, it was straight into 2 Guns; where it's again another duo that sold themselves with their chemistry.

But while the first one was light and fluffy, this was more serious and I had to really pay attention to what's going on onscreen otherwise I would fail to understand it. So in hindsight, I should have watched this first, then The Internship.

I also thought it was funny that in The Internship we had a mockery of Prof. Xavier who mentioned Cyclops in passing, and then in 2 Guns, James Marsden had a significant role.

This movie was set up in such a way that there were a lot of small twists throughout the story. There's always something to be revealed but none of them were real shockers.

Again, what sold this movie was the chemistry between Denzel Washington and Mark Whalberg. They, too, had some friendly banter going on all the time and I thought Whalberg had more of an impact with his portrayal and was also very funny.

With Ted and now this, Whalberg is really a funny guy and I hope he does more comedy and interesting and hilarious characters.

Denzel is still as solid as Denzel always is. I was a bit tentative going in as he can be predictable even though he gives great performances. He's done so many cop movies that I was afraid this could be a repeat performance of one of his older characters. But luckily that was not the case.

However, because there were that many twists and turns that it was slightly difficult to follow. And pacing at times became an issue for me where I was slightly bored and just waiting for the next action sequence to come along.

Two supporting actors really did well here, namely James Marsden and Bill Paxton. I was very impressed with the latter's performance as being one of the protagonist, he made his character really evil and bad-ass in a quiet way.

In the end, it was still a very satisfying watch though, because we were getting this great duo on screen and who I believe it's their first time teaming-up. And I wouldn't mind they do another soon.
