Lee Daniel's The Butler (9/10)

Whether or not The Butler was accurate to history, this was a great movie, a great entertainment.

And the best part that made this movie so satisfying was that it had a proper beginning and a proper end to the main character, played by Forest Whitaker; who gave another awesome performance.

Oprah Winfrey impressed me. At first I only saw Oprah. But with each scene, she won me over with her performance. She wasn't fantastic, but she was convincing. The only thing was that when Whitaker's character aged, she seemed to stay the same. I don't know if it was her acting or the direction given to her. But one thing I saw when her appearance did age, her eyes lacked that acting experience. That youthfulness and sparkles in her eyes were always there. But definitely not a big issue.

The movie was also filled with talented actors stepping in even for a few short scenes to portray the different presidents. And to have such well-known actors playing them was a treat to the audience. I am only slightly familiar with how John F. Kennedy looked, and I thought James Marsden had an uncanny resemblance with just the hair. Unfortunately Minka Kelly didn't have much to do playing his wife.

The only one who didn't seem to belong was Mariah Carey but thankfully she only had a couple of scenes.

I thought Lee Daniel could have gone further with the emotions generated from his storytelling. I thought the psychological violence could have been displayed with more realism to affect the audience. I thought the editing in the montages didn't help those scenes with the dramatic effect.

But those didn't deter the audience from Daniel's vision. He once again gave us a great movie, a great entertainment piece, and it had a very satisfactory ending to a great historical story.
