Don Jon (9/10)

This was smart, real, intelligent, authentic, and a great piece of writing by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Not to mention great direction too.

The cast was stellar. Scarlett Johansson was the perfect fit for her character. Julianne Moore's added a different dimension as her character was quite different from Don Jon's environment. Even those with smaller roles like Tony Danza whose little nuances were perfect under Gordon-Levitt's direction.

And to sit through and experience the story, and watch how the ending unfolded, it was very satisfying; and everything came down to JGL's writing and directing. And his knack for storytelling, those little smiles and eye contact, the way he turned it on before engaging his flavour of the night, he made storytelling fun in this movie. And not to mention that this was filmed with a tiny budget too. Brilliant.

So if this is the kind of quality that JGL can produce, I can't wait for more from him. And what a surprise and a treat to see where he started from (3rd Rock From The Sun), to where he is now. It would have already been great that he is under the radar of Christopher Nolan, but this is just another level of achievement.
