Fruitvale Station (8/10)

Based on the tragic true event of 2008, what made this movie worked so well and set the right tone was the use of the documentary-style shooting. It was apt for this small budget movie and also felt real.

Because of that and seeing Michael B. Jordan reminded me so much of Friday Night Lights. And once again, Jordan gave a great performance. Also because the characters themselves were written so real. They were people that we could easily identify with and relate to.

The first 3/4 set up the story and the character of Jordan perfectly, to let us know who this person was and what kind of life he led. Whatever that has been dramatised didn't feel out of place at all.

And director and writer Ryan Coogler was able to recreate that scary scenario in the final act that again felt very real to the audience. The tension and threat could be felt through the screen, and I only watched this on a small airplane screen.

And like Elizabeth Olsen in the previous entry, I could also now see why Jordan is on his way to becoming an up-and-coming.
