The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug IMAX 3D (8/10)

This was definitely another worth watching on the IMAX. From the very first shot, the images popped out of the screen and the colours were so vibrant that they transport the viewers into the story.

And this one definitely was better than the first Hobbit movie. Nevertheless, I still found the dwarves a less interesting race to watch though. Which was why for the most parts of the first half were still a little draggy for me.

Everything started to come alive when the elves came into the picture. Orlando Bloom once again impressed me portraying Legolas - perhaps the only character he can properly play on the silver screen, unfortunately. From the very first The Lord Of The Rings movie, his portrayal was spot on from how he was portrayed in the books, that's why I have always been impressed with his character. The way he shoots his arrows, one quickly followed by another, as only Legolas knows how. Not even Evangeline Lily's character did it as well as Legolas could and I really do appreciate Peter Jackson keeping it that way.

But a great choice of casting for getting Lily to play an elf, for I have always thought she looks like an elf even from Lost.

The "barrel escape" sequence will be the most defining action scene for not just this sequel, but for the entire year as well. The audience in the whole cinema was enthralled by the beautiful shots and action choreography that was woven seamlessly together to give that thrilling ride and chase.

And by the end of the movie, seeing how the dwarves began working together and in their own element of working in the forge, finally showed me that these dwarves were serious warriors as well. Finally I saw it and began to enjoy them a little bit more.

This time the story gave more focus on a few more dwarf characters and let the audience know a bit more of them individually too.

Also, a few more newer cast members that I thought were great additions were Stephen Fry and Luke Evans. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in the third one.

And finally, the great Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug was fantastic. I thought the way he did it was just a great take on a legendary, mythical and mystical character that was a dragon.
