My mistake was not getting to Anchorman first before watching Anchorman 2. But I don't think that took away too much of the overall enjoyment. There was a good introduction scene as Will Ferrell's character rounded up his posse. The only thing to get past was its brand of humour that may not be for the general masses.
I liked the slapstick humour throughout the movie. Some were misses but mostly were adequately funny and entertaining. Adam McKay's direction sometimes was a bit lacking for me, especially the ending battle where the editing and panning didn't quite get that big effect it was going for.
The newcomers were also hits and misses. James Marsden was great, though could have been funnier with better lines. Same to Harrison Ford too and he had too few appearances. Meagan Good wasn't as good though, as sometimes she looked awkward playing opposite Ferrell.
And Kristen Wiig looked like she just stepped out of Saturday Night Live, but there's nothing wrong with her acting and I thought she was another great addition to the cast too.
The story was good enough to carry itself to the end, it wasn't something that will be memorable though. Time for me to find out what Anchorman was.
