David O. Russell, stylistically in this movie, is very similar to when he did American Hustle. A solid but slightly slower start, introducing the many layers of his characters. And in the second half, the pace took flight, all the way to the finishing line.
The two stars under Russell were great with great chemistry and portrayed characters that were just lovable. The jogging scenes were testaments to this, with Bradley Cooper in a garbage bag and Jennifer Lawrence always catching him in surprise.
The parley scene was probably the best scene in the whole movie with fantastic dialogue. Robert DeNiro looked more alive than I can remember (probably since Meet The Parents).
And when the couple got their dance scores at the end, that was something special. You couldn't help but to feel for them, you want to laugh at them and you want to cheer for them at the same time. That feeling was so funny to me.
That scene was so fantastic that I completely forgive Russell for the unrealistic ballroom dance competition he created.
