Not sure what all the whining was about before the launch, because this was quite a solid action movie.
I thought this remake was a very commendable one, being PG13 and having to fill some big shoes. I liked the new take, the new script, and I really enjoyed this cast.
Gary Oldman was probably the best actor of the bunch and he had a brilliant performance. I also liked Michael Keaton's portrayal very much after not having seen him for so long on the silver screen.
Jackie Earle Haley once again gave a juicy performance as the non-believer while Samuel L. Jackson an equally juicy performance as the instigator. Abbie Cornish brought the human side to the Robo-factor and the unknown Joel Kinnaman did enough to pull off the role.
I had a few things which I really disliked in the writing, the biggest one being the planning of downloading police files into Robocop's "mainframe" and at the same exact time doing a press release. Horrible writing in my opinion. Also, near the end, why would Cornish's character gain access to Keaton's character which led to the big finish.
And in the first test for Robocop in the controlled environment, how can so many robots that were supposed to be so efficient, not take down Robocop in such close proximity? Robocop is a robot, not Neo.
But all in all, still a competent remake with a good storyline, good execution by director Jose Padilha and solid action sequences.
