Watching this the second time, I was able to appreciate the story more as there were no distractions from the restricted movements that were emulating the real Lego toys.
I guess I was hoping for the smoother and freer movements a la Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles as that's the only other Lego animation I've seen. And that had smooth action especially with lightsabers.
But after seeing past that, the entertainment value is really high. The story is well told and well directed. Granted, watching this the second time it became clear that, if you took out Batman, then it's The Matrix Trilogy; especially the first 30 minutes were like a copy of the first 30 minutes of The Matrix. Even the robots were like those insect looking robots in The Matrix Trilogy.
Originality aside, I loved this concept of existentialism, just like how Matrix did it. I loved the deeper issue of believe in oneself and whether or not to follow instructions. There's so much to be learnt in so many levels.
But one problem remained for me, that a lot of things were rushed. Like the beginning with Vitruvius and Business, it felt like the directors were really fighting to save time.
And because Emmet and Wildstyle traversed through a few worlds, those parts made the movie felt longer than it actually was too. However, every scene had a purpose that was necessary. And the amount of jokes crammed into this movie was amazing. And I really enjoyed those jokes referencing to other movies that really satisfied the geek in me.
So credit to the directors to create such a fast paced and detailed movie. As well as the amazing work in stop-motion too at the end credits.
