Vampire Academy (4/10)

Another teenage vampire flick. I was hoping this would be better than Twilight but for other reasons, it's not. This should have came with a rating of "Not For Adults".

The dialogue was very, very lame - lamer than the teenage angst. The adaptation must have been very poor if the book was any good - I'm guessing it must be to warrant a film. The direction by Mark Waters was quite inconsistent because the pacing was very bad. The mood of the movie was just like a teenager's mood swing, especially when following the mood swings of Lucy Fry's main vampire character.

Olga Kurylenko's character was the lamest of them all. We've had had snobbish and stuck up and egotistical high school headmasters before but hers was just intolerable and not fun. Also, how could the whole school not have solutions when there's a vampire that could openly go around compelling other students? I'm sure the book would explain this better but that didn't translate properly here.

The only good thing about this whole misadventure was Zoey Deutch who was sexy and spunky and fun to watch. And, at least we saw Sarah Hyland outside of Modern Family and she was the other one that did well with her character here.
