Mr. Peabody & Sherman (7/10)
Not a bad pre-summer animated movie with time-travelling and a lesser known but solid cast.
Ty Burrell's voice, I've come to realise, is quite distinguishable. He has this certain inflection that is quite recognisable. And I have always been a fan of his work in Modern Family and thought he could do more. So before the Muppets sequel, he's shown here that he can carry an animated movie well.
We also get another cast member from Modern Family taking on one of the bigger roles here. Ariel Winter's voice, however, I didn't recognise.
I thought the jokes were a bit too "intelligent" in this movie. They were mostly in terms of dialogue and one-liners and would not be appreciated by the younger audience members. Even Sherman in the movie kept responding, "I don't get it," after Mr. Peabody made a joke.
Predictably, they travelled to a few places in time before ending up back in their own timeline. But towards the end, the time travelling concept fell too loose and wasn't explained adequately. Even I didn't understand what was happening and how they fixed the space-time continuum. A bit of lazy writing that didn't translate well onto the silver screen in the end by director Rob Minkoff.
