Hesher (7/10)
I kind of liked what director and writer Spencer Susser has done with his first feature film, Hesher. From that first scene with Joseph Gordon-Levitt walking out with his flailing hair, that was quite an entrance.
And his next appearance was even better.
I also liked how Natalie Portman continued to do appear in smaller projects like this and Garden State. I believe she looked at the roles and then decide as this was something that she has never done before.
Devin Brochu and Rainn Wilson's dramatic turn were adequate to be heartfelt. Gordon-Levitt's performance was the saving grace.
Some plot points were a bit forced, but that was all in the writing and it was easy to see why that particular direction was taken. It was more from an artistic standpoint than anything else, but for the most parts they worked.
