Director And Cast For Jem And The Holograms Movie

A child of the 80's would recognise Jem And The Holograms. While the boys were sitting intently in front of those box-TV sets watching G. I. Joe, Transformers and He-Man, the girls had Jem.

A teaser image has been released showing the four girls.

Jon M. Chu, who was previously attached to direct He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, in a move that made him look quite silly to me, dropped out of He-Man that arguably has a much bigger potential, and out of nowhere jumped on to this project.

As a child of the 80's, if you still cared at all for any of those cartoons back then, chances are you are a male. So that would mean you are the target market for He-Man, not Jem. Creating Jem And The Holograms movie is a bigger risk.

Then again, if anyone is going to direct this movie and make it work, M. Chu is the guy who could make it work.

Would I rather see him bring the G. I. Joe-esque flavour to He-Man even though his installment of the sequel was worse than the original? Of course, because at least then we're getting a He-Man movie.

So now it's crazy to think we're going to get a Jem And The Holograms movie before Masters Of The Universe.

The cast for the movie will include Aubrey Peeples as Jem, Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko as Aja. Ryan Guzman from Step Up Revolution and Step Up: All In will be playing Rio.

Yes, virtually all unknowns. Only time will tell if this is the right move not to include a bigger name to lead the cast.
