Jerry Bruckheimer Bringing 3 Oldies Back
Well, three and a half actually.
Jerry Bruckheimer, who gave us big action hits like Con Air and The Rock (as a producer), has announced not too long ago (first time this news broke was about a year ago, I believe) that he is looking to bring back some of the 80's classics and updating them for the audience of today.
The sequel to Top Gun was reported last month in an interview that it is coming closer to fruition. Other than the two movies previously mentioned, Top Gun would be the other one from Bruckheimer's repertoire that I would most like to see. (I actually don't see Con Air nor The Rock happening, though if they really wanted, Nicolas Cage would still be physically fit to do them.)
Hopefully, Tom Cruise will return; as well as Val Kilmer but he would need to get into some serious fitness regime first.
Second one would be Bad Boys, which already has a sequel back in 2003. That installment wasn't as satisfying as the first one, and even was a little bit gimmicky. So that's the only reason why I'm lukewarm on this.
And the most recently reported, Beverly Hills Cop 4 is getting the green light. Bruckheimer said that Paramount, Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner are all excited to do it. So they may start shooting very soon. However, this is one that I'm just not that interested in.
Finally, and the reason why I added in the "half", Pirates Of The Caribbean is getting a fifth installment, and Johnny Depp will be back, obviously. Now this is the one that I just couldn't care much about.
Seriously, how is it that someone as talented as Depp keeps going back to the same character instead of trying to go and reinvent himself once again? I'll never understand that. It's almost like Shrek now where I'm just feeling fatigue just by hearing the name.
Bruckheimer, how about giving us a reboot of Con Air and The Rock instead? And put in Dwayne The Rock Johnson, especially in The Rock.
