Trained briefly in the world of Latin and ballroom dancing, and thanks to So You Think You Can Dance, I have come to learn, appreciate and love the other types of dances. While dance movies have never been great, they do give a platform for professional dancers out there to educate the world of their trade and show how much dance has evolved year on year.
Stepping in as a producer once again is Adam Shankman who has always had his name attached to this franchise. And this time a new director is recruited. Trish Sie is quite a newcomer and this would be her first big budget(ish) feature length movie.
Seeing the trailer, there are already a few of familiar faces from the franchise and the dance world. (Also thanks to John M. Chu's pet project L.X.D.)
Coming back from Step Up Revolution is Ryan Guzman as the male lead once again. My favourite female lead from the franchise, Kathryn McCormick unfortunately is nowhere in sight. Playing opposite Guzman will be two alumni who have stepped up (pun intended) and promoted to the forefront; namely Alyson Stoner from Step Up 3D and Briana Evigan from Step Up 2: The Streets.
And in this trailer, we see Guzman and Stoner's character about to share a kiss, so I guess there's really no chance of seeing McCormick in the fold since her character was Guzman's love interest in the previous outing.
Am I looking forward to this movie which will definitely not be boasting any clever writing, emotional acting or a strong story? Maybe a little bit. But I really don't mind a guilty pleasure in the form of a dance movie.
