2 'Beauty And The Beast' Live Action Movies On The Way

Disney has just released news that they are now looking to release a new live action Beauty And The Beast. The release date is still unknown as of now but they have confirmed a director, Bill Condon.

Condon has had his fair share of hits and misses but is an Academy Award winner, among others, for his writing on Gods And Monsters in which he directed too. He was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for the musical, Chicago.

His other directorial work includes Dreamgirls, the two last Twilight films, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2. The less well received one would be The Fifth Estate, though I have not watched it to comment but it did boast Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange.

The next immediate film Condon will direct is a new take on Sherlock Holmes played by Sir Ian McKellan and also starring Laura Linney. Sounds interesting enough already.

Looking at his resume though, one would assume that this live action adaptation would be a musical as well. I would like to see that it is because the cartoon has so many great songs that if done well should blend in magically with the live action.

However, since Alice In Wonderland started this trend back in 2010, then Maleficent this year, and two more properties on the way (Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh and The Jungle Book directed by Jon Favreau - both to be released next year); none of them looked like a musical so far. So Beauty And The Beast may not get the musical treatment too.

The other version of the movie stems from the beautiful mind of Guillermo del Toro, and Emma Watson is very close to being confirmed to playing Belle in this reimagining of the classic that was the first ever animated movie to be nominated Best Picture in the Academy Awards.

Obviously it will be a totally different story from the original (just like that awful teenager version Beastly starring Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens).

But we're still waiting for del Toro to finally come out and say that this will be the next project he will do because he has so many things up in the air at any one time that it all depends on which project can grow some legs first. Even his IMDb page is never accurate because no one can see through the intricacies of del Toro's mind.

Nevertheless, anything del Toro, I'm interested.
