Sigourney Weaver Confirmed Returning For 3 Avater Sequels
James Cameron has confirmed that Sigourney Weaver will be back for all 3 Avater sequels. Cameron stated that their creative history has dated back to 1985 when they made Aliens, and have always worked well together. So he's happy to be able to continue that working relationship for the next few years.
The untitled first sequel is set to start production later this year in order to meet the release date of December 2016. The second and third sequels will be released in December 2017 and 2018 respectively. And as reported before, the sequels will be filmed back to back.
Also already confirmed to return are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang.
We already saw Weaver and Lang's character died in the first movie, so there will be some new and creative ways to bring these characters back. Of Weaver, Cameron said that she will be playing a "different and in many ways more challenging character" going forward.
I actually would prefer those who died to stay dead so that the movie can move forward with new characters coming in and not bringing focus back to old characters. But then again, I still have no idea how Cameron is bringing back the dead characters. Hopefully it will be an ingenious way that we won't see coming.
