Star Wars Becoming The Next Marvel?

(Picture sourced from comicbookmovie.com)

I have written a lot about how impressed I am with Marvel so far. Especially with how they have given us one of the best comic book movies ever in Avengers and how they have handled everything else that came after that, they haven't made a wrong step yet.

And now we're getting at least one or two comic book movies from Marvel studios every year. The immense talent that Marvel are able to recruit for a genre that used to be looked down upon is nothing short of impressive. Hollywood legend Robert Redford in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was icing on the cake.

Now everyone wants to work with Marvel, be it directors or actors. And Kevin Feige and his team are handpicking everyone that walks through the Marvel door and onto a Marvel set. They are even in that unique position to be very picky with who they hire.

Enter Star Wars - which is now also under the massive umbrella of Disney. There is arguably nothing in the cinema universe that is bigger than Star Wars. And even with the prequels leaving a bad taste in almost everyone's mouth, when Episode VII drops next year's holiday season, it will be the biggest movie event of this decade.

Unlike the prequels, Disney is doing it the right way this time. They generated positive buzz ever since the epic purchase of the Star Wars brand, they have gotten the right director (J. J. Abrams) who has done absolutely the right things so far, and they have a roadmap just like Marvel.

Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm has already promised the fans a trilogy (VII, VIII, IX) and also at least three standalone spin-offs for the next decade. Make no mistake that should the trilogy be successful, we will be getting a Star Wars movie every year!

They have already hired two young, promising and talented directors in Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank to helm two of the three unnamed spin-offs.They have already attracted Oscar-level actors for Episode VII (Lupita Nyong'o, and Oscar Isaac who could have easily been nominated last year). They even got Harrison Ford to come back!

It may be a little too early to tell but Star Wars could become just as big as Marvel. It has a rich lore, extensive history, hundreds of characters, and most importantly, a legion of fans - both young and old - worldwide.

Could we ever see more than one Star Wars movie in one year like Marvel Studios? I definitely won't rule it out. We live in exciting times.
