22 Jump Street (7/10)

I managed to catch this in Melbourne as it doesn't seem like it will make it to Brunei. I'm not sure why this one wouldn't pass the local censorship though.

There's a great opening sequence with the two leads, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, that ended with a very funny re-introduction of "Jump Street" and Ice Cube but I seemed to be the only one laughing (you would really have to pay attention to the dialogue).

I thought the plot this time wasn't as good as the first but it was still enough for some entertaining sub-plots. Again, there were a lot of jokes and the further building of the two leads' relationship with each other. The chemistry between Tatum and Hill continue to grow and was reflected strongly onscreen. They created a lot of comedic moments that has become the franchise's strongest suit.

There was one great comedic timing by Tatum that set off the whole cinema in laughter. I thought that was very nicely directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. But unfortunately there was only one such scene.

I would have liked to see more story development with Amber Stevens' character as there was one jarring plot hole that shouldn't have been there.

I missed the excitement and absurdity of the final scenes of the first movie. I thought this sequel didn't compare to the first, what with Johnny Depp making a hilarious cameo and all.

But there was another great scene involving the recurring characters of Dave Franco and Rob Riggle that was one of the film's highlights. And do stay for the end credits as there were more laughters to be had.

Will we see 23 Jump Street. I think that's a safe bet.
