Insidious: Chapter 3 Is A Prequel

(Picture sourced from slashfilm.com)

This time without partner James Wan, who has sworn off the horror genre for the time being, Leigh Whannel is taking things forward on his own with the Insidious franchise.

Or should I say "backward".

Latest news on Insidious: Chapter 3 is that it is going to be a prequel but still with some familiar faces as well as whole new ones. Whannel will once again be on writing duties, but also, for the very first time, sit on the director's chair.

It's only natural that this progression has taken place. And I would give him the benefit of the doubt as this is a genre that is close to his heart, and that he has seen how Wan does it so he's not without some kind of experience.

The aforementioned new faces this time will take form in the guises of Dermot Mulroney (last seen in the critically acclaimed August: Osage County) and Stefanie Scott (who has just finished filming Jem And The Holograms).

Whannel will reprise his role, as well as his onscreen partners-in-crime Angus Sampson and Lin Shaye.

I know a few people who didn't enjoy Chapter 2 as much as Chapter 1 but I found both equally good, equally chilling and thrilling. Though Wan's role is limited to producing only this time, I'm excited to find out what Whannel can do.
