Blended (3/10)
Another typically bad movie of Adam Sandler's. I understand that there's a market for his type of lame humour but why doesn't he strive to make better quality movies?
The first 10 minutes of the movie was atrocious. That whole scene with Sandler and Drew Barrymore getting to know each other at Hooters was set up so badly and ended at an even worse place. Is it still funny to see actresses make a mess of themselves like that?
When they got to the safari, I just didn't see the logic behind that supposedly family-friendly place and all the adult-themed innuendos. And we're already in the year 2014, not 2004. Director Frank Coraci couldn't have found a better way to do a montage of the safari animals? For a movie like this, the shorter the running time the better. But this ran for almost two hours.
I also noticed that Barrymore sometimes wasn't directed properly. In some scenes she looked very unnatural and I was surprised those were not re-shot.
And just how smart does Sandler thinks little tykes are these days? The youngest kid in the movie seemed unbelievably wise beyond her years. Kevin Nealon was just okay but his onscreen target of affection Jessica Lowe was not!
There were some brighter spots to be found here, but maybe because the movie was so bad that Wendi McLedon-Covey was a welcomed distraction.
But the best thing about this movie was Terry Crews. He was the funniest. His burst of comedy was used perfectly to relieve the boredom that was almost felt throughout the entirety of the film.
Sandler, time for a change, please.
