Legendary and Warner Bros. have just announced the release date for Godzilla's sequel, and it is going to be just shy of 4 years from now - 8 June 2018.
The studios must like Gareth Edwards' direction a lot because they are indeed bringing him back for the sequel, and they are willing to align with his busy schedule.
Edwards is currently working on this small project called a Star Wars spin-off, which has a release date of 16 December 2016. However, no word yet on which spin-off he will be handling; but his career path will only go upwards from here.
