Lego To Release Ninjago Before The Lego Movie 2
The Lego Movie has earned USD 468 million worldwide, and the sequel has been announced for 26 May 2017.
But before that, a Lego Ninjago spinoff is set to be released for 23 September 2016! It will be directed by Charlie Bean, and written by Kevin Chesley, Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman and Bryan Shukoff. This will be Bean's first full length feature film, while both Hagemans have been involved with the story of The Lego Movie.
I have never seen an episode of the Ninjago animated series and I am not about to start. Perhaps the movie may change my mind.
But seems like Lego and Warner Bros. are about to create their own Lego universe as well. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller now no longer directing or writing, but producing, they may be responsible to bring in more Lego properties to the silver screen and at the same time making sure that all movies will have that same feel to the first Lego Movie.
With the Ninjago spinoff, their own characters can get more focus and development in their own story arc before an option to reintroduce them again alongside Emmet and Wyldstyle in the The Lego Movie sequel. They may even have major roles there.
And if Ninjago does well, we can expect more Lego-based movies. What could be next? The Legend Of Chima perhaps?
Warner Bros. has also announced two more dates further along this decade that are earmarked for Lego properties, 25 May 2018 and 24 May 2019. At this point, it's safe to speculate that 2018 may go to a Ninjago sequel while 2019 goes to the third Lego Movie.
