Another Morgan Freeman Casting News, Ben-Hur Remake
Even before the main leads are cast for the Ben-Hur remake, or based loosely on the Charlton Heston version, MGM and Paramount have announced their first formal big casting and that comes in the form of Morgan Freeman.
Freeman is said to play Ildarin, a teacher to Ben-Hur in becoming a great chariot racer.
The main storyline will look at the blood feud between Judah Ben-Hur and Messala, who grew up together as best friends in Jerusalem before the Roman Empire invaded. John Ridley from 12 Years A Slave fame rewrote the Keith R. Clarke script.
There have been reports that Tom Hiddleston is being courted to play Ben-Hur but no confirmation yet.
The movie is set to release on 26 February 2016 and is directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who did Night Watch, Day Watch and Wanted.
It's high time I caught up with this classical epic. I may have seen it before when I was less than 10 years old as some chariot action sequences came to mind, but I wouldn't be able to remember anything specific now. But if Tom Hiddleston is onboard, why not? Put him in anything at this point and I'll be interested because I still have no idea what he can or cannot do.
