Magic Mike XXL has confirmed that they are going to lose Matthew McConaughey as he will not return to reprise his role for the sequel.
It would have been interesting to see the incredible star power that would have lit up the silver screen had McConaughey, who had just won Best Actor at this year's Oscars, stood side by side with Channing Tatum, who is also heavily rumoured to be nominated for his performance in the upcoming Foxcatcher.
However, to balance off the testosterone, the producers have casted 3 beautiful actresses alongside the heavy male cast. Andie MacDowell is not only beautiful but a darn good actress. Jada Pinckett Smith doesn't appear in too many films but has always been dependable.
And Amber Heard, one of the sexiest actresses in Hollywood today; though I'm still waiting for her to have a breakout role. She is definitely not without talent when it comes to acting.
I enjoyed the first Magic Mike, though the ending left me a little disappointed. But it was still a very good movie, a very Steven Soderbergh movie.
This time, however, the director's chair will sit Gregory Jacobs; who has been Soderbergh's second unit director for many films. He has also been directing for a long time now, with titles such as Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven trilogy and Side Effects under his belt; and this could very well be his big break to be wearing the captain's hat.
Magic Mike XXL is set to be released on 1 July 2015.
