1) Dark House
I'll start with the one I'm least interested in.
Originally titled as Haunted, from the trailer this looks like a low-budget, B-grade movie with cheap special effects. So cheap not even the quick editing work can hide how cheap they are.
However, if you are a Jeepers Creepers fan, you may want to check this out as it's from the same director, Victor Salva. And it's also starring Tobin Bell from the Saw franchise.
2) The Equalizer
This is the one that has the biggest pull factor this week. The Equalizer has had its trailers playing for many weeks now in the local cinemas. It's got Denzel Washington headlining it, with Chloe Grace Moretz in the supporting role.
Now who wouldn't want to watch Washington kick some butts? Directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed Washington in Training Day; and Washington is back playing a role that looked very similar to Man On Fire, Safe House and 2 Guns. Let's hope the movie will be as good as, and filled with action like its trailers.
3) The Prince
This trailer that I've never heard of looks mighty interesting. Another action-thriller that's rated R like The Equalizer, but this one has more big names in it starting with Bruce Willis and John Cusack. These two names are enough to make me carve out time to watch it. Hopefully it won't be another Willis phoning-in performance.
Supporting the A-listers are Jessica Lowndes, Rain and 50 Cent. But the guy taking the lead is actually Jason Patric. Patric was supposed to be made an action star after he took over Keanu Reeves in Speed 2: Cruise Control but that never came to pass. Let's see if this movie will make him one yet.
4) Outcast
Like The Prince, this one came out of nowhere as well. Never seen or heard its title before and yet starring one of my favourite actors, Nicolas Cage.
What surprised me while watching the trailer was that Cage was speaking with an English accent! He could make or break the movie with it.
Set in the oriental period, it is a reminiscent of The Last Samurai because the story seems to be about two outsiders coming to save the locals from assassination. Starring opposite Cage is Hayden Christensen from the Star Wars prequel, China's Liu Yifei and American born Andy On - whom I last saw in the very horrible Special ID.
A very mixed cast of actors, with writers and directors that are not as experienced. This probably wouldn't be as good as what the trailer portrayed.
