Without Jason Segel, Sex Tape would have been quite unwatchable.
Watching Cameron Diaz here was wierdly painful. Diaz although not a first class actress but she has always been dependable to deliver. Even in the awful The Other Woman from earlier this year, at least Diaz was the one that held things together. But here, she was there weajkest link.
In order to critique this properly I would have to watch her performance in Bad Teacher which was directed by Jake Kasdan as well. The reason was because here, Diaz looked completely unnatural. Every piece of acting, especially facial expressions, you could tell was an act. That's why I didn't think she and Kasdan were a good match.
Also, some of the plot points like Segel's and Diaz's characters went over to Rob Lowe's home, the whole subplot there was terrible. Unfortunately for Rob Corddry and Ellie Kemper who were roped in, they became terrible as well.
There was no moral to the story or anything meaningful whatsoever, nothing touching or anything like that. In the end I was just glad it ended.
Only the banter between Segel and Harrison Holzer had some nice chemistry.
The whole movie didn't really have any big laughs as well. Just some cringing moments that never fully entertained.
