Jason Bateman To Direct IPO Man
No, this isn't a comic book superhero movie despite the title, IPO Man.
It actually is a real-life story about a man named Mike Merrill who sold himself on the stock market. A total of 100,000 shares at $1.00 each was put up for sale, 929 were sold and he kept the other 99,071 as a non-voting shareholder.
His investors would vote on the actions in his life, even on his love interest after this scheme cost him his girlfriend.
Sounds like a disaster for life choices but as a movie, it could be very interesting. And this character sounds like could be up the alley for Bateman to star as well as direct.
This story of Mike Merrill went viral last year after Wired.com released his story with the title, Meet The Man Who Sold His Fate To Investors At $1 A Share; and has now been acquired by Fox Searchlight.
I guess the investors who bought his shares will be making some real money out of this after all.
This would be Bateman's third directorial effort, with Bad Words being the debut and The Family Fang being the follow-up (to be released next year).
I have yet to catch Bad Words since it never came to Brunei (the title is as good an indication as any), but I am very interested to see how Bateman is behind the camera.
