The Help (9/10)

I finally got round to watching The Help, and surprised there were not more actresses getting nominated for Oscar from this movie that year.

On paper this movie didn't get much attention from me, which is why I waited till now to watch it. But from the very first frame the movies drew me in and never let up until the last frame.

This was an amazing adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's novel by Tate Taylor. He hasn't done much directing before this, but he seemed to be very good directing female actors to bring out their best.

All of them; Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney and Sissy Spacek; gave wonderful performances. I really wouldn't be surprised if any or all of the other names were thrown into the mix to compete with the official contenders of Spencer (who won) and Chastain as well.

But was Taylor a one-hit wonder? I have yet to watch Get On Up that was released just this August because it never came to Brunei. I'll have a better idea and opinion after watching that.

Nevertheless, The Help was beautifully directed, had a great story with colourful characters, and a great enjoyment to watch. Davis and Spencer were the heart and soul of the movie.
