The Judge (8/10)
Looking at David Dobkin's directorial efforts, he has quite the range. The Judge looked like something new for him again.
It's hard not to see Tony Stark when Robert Downey Jr. puts on a suit and be so charismatic, as that's what I saw when he first came on as a lawyer here. It took some time for him to shave off that connection with his dramatic performance.
Robert Duvall hasn't had such a great role for a long time. And he was a fantastic choice of casting by Downey's company, Team Downey, for this movie. He brought so much emotions and depth, even just by ignoring Downey's character.
The story had good pacing, albeit a slower one. But because the plot was interesting, with great side characters performed by Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shephard, Leighton Meester and Billy Bob Thornton; it was seldom dull.
There were a few scenes like old films rolling that I didn't care much for. But at the end of the day, it's the two Roberts that brought their A game and they made this movie what it was. And it got slightly emotional for me a few times, too.
