Penguins Of Madagascar (7.5/10)

I wasn't that interested in Penguins Of Madagascar at first because of how uninteresting and forgettable Madagascar has become in the sequels. So I wasn't really looking forward to this. But I was pleasantly surprised.

This movie was fast-paced, action oriented, and really funny. Granted that it was illogical and silly a lot of times, but because it was so fast paced, I rarely had time to focus on logic. This definitely was one of those leave-your-brain-at-home kind of movies.

Tom McGrath voiced the leader of the penguins, seemed to be channeling an old school character but I can't recall who. The way he paced his speech makes his character more interesting. But other than McGrath bringing some personality to the character, the other penguins didn't seem to have any.

The only other two voice actors that stood out were John Malkovich as the protagonist and Benedict Cumberbatch as the wolf. Peter Stormare and the polar bear wasn't as interesting or funny as he should have been, while Ken Jeong and Annet Mahendru who made up the rest of the North Wind didn't make any impact.

I didn't like how the whole North Wind were written. It's just a cliche way of writing so as to have simple one-dimensional characters that were easy to pop in and out of the movie. Why couldn't the North Wind be the brave and sophisticated agents, and at the same time, were real heroes as well?

The moral at the end of the movie also came quite suddenly with not much build-up. It felt very forced into the movie just so there was a moral at the end; as if when without, it wouldn't be a proper animated movie.
