Elektra Luxx (7/10)
There's something endearing about the way Sebastian Gutierrez wrote and shot this movie. As my first experience with a Gutierrez film, I'm not sure if this is his style or just a director who's an expert with low budget movies.
I liked all the cast involved in this movie. It's amazing how such a small movie can get big names such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Carla Gugino to play major roles; even Julianna Moore made a special and funny appearance.
The rest of the cast all gave it their best as well, which included Timothy Olyphant, Adrianne Palicki, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Malin Akerman, Amy Rosoff, Kathleen Quinlan and Justin Kirk; whom I thought was playing too much like his character in TV's "Weeds".
I liked the pacing a lot, frankly because all its minor subplots were interesting to watch. I found the whole movie satirical and funny. Even Palicki's character and her relationship with Chriqui's started off a little superficial, but by the end of it I also saw the believable aspect of it.
What I didn't like was probably the way Gugino's character found success, or shall I say success found her, in that pivotal scene. It was a bit too easy to be satisfactory. And also Gugino's song and dance number, which I could have done without.
But I thought for such a little movie, it certainly had a lot of quality.
