These are the worst movies of last year which I had the misfortune of encountering. Some of course I put myself through them voluntarily, but others I just didn't expect them to be this horrible.
And even I, Frankenstein was better than these so yes, they were that bad.
Let's start from the bottom:
10) Brick Mansions (4/10)
Written by Luc Besson, one of his most uninspired work. And even worse was a director who didn't know how to make it work. This was supposed to be a parkour movie too but we only got a little bit of it in the beginning. That killed the expectation.
9) Sabotage (3/10)
This was my least favourite David Ayer movie. Halfway through, suddenly romance / lust blossomed out of nowhere and from then on, it was as if Ayer didn't know how to continue because he knew he made a mistake and he couldn't correct it anymore. So the movie went downhill from there.
8) Step Up All In (3/10)
I never really minded the Step Up franchise's weak plots and mediocre acting because it was all about the dancing. But this time the movie seemed like it got tired of its own repetitions and just didn't care anymore. This was a huge step down.
7) The Other Woman (3/10)
Kate Upton should never be put into a movie. Had the story ended at the half way point, I would have liked it a lot more. But the third act was like being dragged through mud and then dumped in a rubbish bin.
6) The Legend Of Hercules (3/10)
I couldn't take all the inconsistencies in this movie. Sometimes Hercules had powers but most of the time he didn't. It was only to the story teller's convenience and that baffled me a lot. And the effects was so cheap and horribly done that it's even worse than watching two episodes of a TV series.
5) Blended (3/10)
A very typical Adam Sandler movie that was predictable and lame. But it was Drew Barrymore who looked so unnatural that hurt the movie even more than its ridiculous plot.
4) Hours (3/10) - Poor Paul Walker, he did so many lousy movies before his unfortunate passing. This movie was slower than a snail and couldn't be interesting even if it was the last movie on earth. They should have kept Genesis Rodriguez around more rather than kill her off in the first act. At least there would have been something pretty to look at.
3) Left Behind (3/10)
I usually give Nicolas Cage some leeway but this horrible adaptation was shallow, slow, dull and covered in cheese syrup. It really felt like end of the world sitting through it.
2) From Vegas To Macau (3/10)
Wong Jing once upon a time was entertaining. Now he's just irritating. Always defying logic in a world he created himself and then spat on. He willed things to happen just because he could without a care for plot holes and continuity issues. This is also why Chow Yun Fat is getting worse.
1) The Monkey King (1/10)
I walked out of this movie halfway through once I realised that had I been sitting on the director's chair, this movie might have turned out a whole lot better. 'Nuff said.
