Scarlett Johansson Is Ghost In The Shell

It has been a little while now that Dreamworks has announced a Ghost In The Shell movie, and now they have officially signed Scarlett Johansson as its star.

Ghost In The Shell, originally a manga, has been produced a few times as standalone movies as well as in series; but all in Japanese.

For the first time, it will be adapted into an English medium. And it is said that Steven Spielberg, founder of Dreamworks, has been a huge fan of the original.

The Hollywood version will be directed by Rupert Sanders, who also did Snow White And The Huntsman; however no word yet on a release date as of now.

Would I have picked Johansson for this role? No, definitely not. I'd much prefer see an Asian take on this role but that's not the main reason since I have no idea what direction Dreamworks is going with it. But it's kind of baffling to me why she would even want to take up this role because she's already done the action star in Avengers and Lucy.

However, having given it a second thought, Johansson has not led an action franchise before. Ghost In The Shell has that appeal where it can blossom into a trilogy easily. And to do that, Dreamworks is smart to get a bankable star like Johansson.
