I remembered in Step Up Revolution with Kathryn McCormick that their couple dances were more interesting and entertaining than the ones we saw here in All In. Plus McCormick has the kind of beauty that can really draw you in just by being in front of a camera.
And true to the Step Up franchise, there's a collection of great dancers from all over, especially from the dance competition reality TV series, "So You Think You Can Dance". Familiar faces include Phillip Chbeeb, Christopher Scott, Stephen Boss; with new talents like Comfort Fedoke, Cyrus Spencer and Jaja Vankova.
Robotic movements expert Chadd Smith got a bigger role in this one but, maybe it's the lack of acting talent, his bits were much weaker this time round.
Izabella Miko, from the original dance movie Coyote Ugly, added some flavour into the mix. But her character was forgettable without
Granted this franchise is all about presenting dancers with crazy dance moves in a movie that's not for its acting nor writing, but still the writing in this one was horrible. The lines were corny and thrown together like an afterthought.
Hence, getting Izabella Miko, from the original dance movie, Coyote Ugly, was a waste because she wasn't written in with a stronger presence. The fall-out between Guzman and his original crew also looked like teenagers who only knew how to sulk in their respective corners and not communicate.
The movie also suffered from repetitive build-ups, from two crews bumping into each other and wanting to battle on the dance floor, but ended up shoving one another; and to a finale dance-off that's always unfair and unbalanced to one side.
And in this movie, no dance sequence throughout the whole movie was entertaining or awe inspiring. By the end, from a competition standpoint and for story continuity, that giant mess of dance orgy made no sense whatsoever.
This franchise is beginning to be hard to enjoy.
